Orientation

It all starts here: as a new student, you receive a comprehensive orientation before your first classes to help you understand NYADI policies, expectations regarding performance, and more:

  • Student Handbook and Catalog (you will receive a copy)
  • Available academic programs, facilities, student services and resources, and faculty and staff
  • Important rules and regulations
  • Grading procedures and progress/performance standards
  • Financial aid
  • Disciplinary action and the readmission policy
  • Drug prevention policy
  • 30-minute Safety Video covering shop and lab safety procedures

At the end of the orientation program, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions, and you’ll sign a statement acknowledging that you received all the information listed above.

ASE Test Preparation

Every Friday, instructors are available to help you prepare for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification examination. You’ll have the opportunity to take a two-hour exam from a previous year and review the answers with the instructor.

Advising

If you’re experiencing trouble with your classes or attendance, we strive to intervene before your performance suffers. Meet with your Department Chair to discuss the option of a class change, a leave of absence, and more. While we do not provide counseling services, the Student Services Department will try to help you understand the reasons behind the issue and look for potential solutions.

To help provide resources you might need, NYADI maintains a list of available rentals, local public transportation routes, and childcare information, as well as contact information for various outside organizations that can offer counseling and advice regarding decision-making, career choices, stress and emotional challenges, and more.

Library/Resources Center

The Library/Resources Center is accessible during school hours. With 2,000 square feet of space and more than 1,000 volumes and 60 hard copy periodical subscriptions, it’s an ideal environment for research and study. Internet-linked computers offer access to industry curriculum from Mercedes Benz, MOPAR, Daimler Trucks, Ford, Isuzu University, i-Car, Mitchell ProDemand, and more, along with various automotive, diesel, and collision databases.

Tutoring

Instructors make themselves available to help students in the 30 minutes prior to classes and in the two hours after. If you need extra assistance with your class work, talk to the Director of Academic Assessment, who will assess your needs and place you in tutoring. For remediation, you’ll receive guidance on how to address academic deficiencies.

TASC Preparation

The Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) Preparation Program is required for all Ability-To-Benefit students enrolled in an Eligible Career Pathway Program.
