No High School Diploma or GED? We Can Help!
New Options for ATB Students at NYADI

As an Ability to Benefit (ATB) vocational school, the New York Automotive and Diesel Institute (NYADI) proudly welcomes students of all backgrounds, including those who do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Here, you can enroll in one of our career training programs and in our adult education program at the same time – and at no extra cost to you.

Ability To Benefit Program

Thanks to a recent change to the Higher Education Act of 1965, all students who do not hold a post-secondary education degree are now eligible for Title IV financial aid at participating schools and career pathway programs, like NYADI. This is excellent news for students who were concerned about not qualifying for admissions and/or about not being able to afford an education. Since March of 2015, more than 120 students have been able to attend NYADI through ATB. Students benefit from the following:

  • Concurrent enrollment in one of our career training programs and in our HSE-prep course
  • Access to academic counseling services
  • Structured course sequences to advance through the automotive hierarchy
  • Option to participate in accelerated opportunities

Test Assessment Secondary Completion (TASC) And High School Equivalency (HSE) Exam

When students enroll in the concurrent adult education program, it means they are signing up to take TASC courses. TASC was developed to help students learn, or re-learn, high school-level material in preparation for taking and passing the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam. It consists of a series of reading and writing, mathematics, science and social studies classes. The Director of Academic Assessment, Joseph Santora, delivers individualized education and accommodates ESL (English-as-a-second-language) students as well.

With help from qualified instructors and peer tutors, TASC students will be able to successfully complete the HSE. After graduation, they’ll not only be certified automotive, diesel or collision technicians, but they’ll also be carriers of a high school equivalency diploma. With both accomplishments to their name, NYADI students can enter the workforce in their chosen field with ease. NYADI’s placement department helps them along every step of the way, working to find graduates jobs upon program completion.

Just because you don’t currently have a high school diploma doesn’t mean you can’t pursue higher education. NYADI Students Routinely Work on Car Engines

NYADI offers our ATB students preparation for the TASC (TEST ASSESSING SECONDARY COMPLETION) at no additional cost so that they may attain a High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate along with their NYADI certificates. This program is offered in a state of the art electronic environment with qualified instructors and peer tutors. To ensure that applicants are prepared to accomplish the tasks required to pass NYADI classes and in order to be accepted as an ATB student, applicants must take qualifying exams in verbal and math skills. Applicants who do not meet the minimum scores will be referred to further preparation and can come back at a later date to test again.
