Becoming an Auto Technician after Military Service

As a military veteran, you’ve acquired real-world experience and skills during your time in uniform. Put what you’ve learned in regards to technical training, leadership, teamwork, integrity and global awareness to work for you by becoming a certified auto mechanic with help from NYADI The College of Automotive and Diesel Technology.

About the Auto Tech Industry

Many skills learned during your time in the military easily transfer to the automotive technology industry. For instance, let’s say you were a track vehicle repairer in the U.S. Army. You would have needed to perform both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on track-laying and wheeled vehicles, material handling equipment and even power generation equipment. An automotive technician would use many – if not all – of these skills on a regular basis.

By definition, automotive service technicians inspect, maintain and repair automotive vehicles and light trucks. They may also overhaul systems, like the powertrain, suspension and steering components. According to the BLS Occupational Handbook, growth for jobs in the auto service industry is expected to rise 6% between 2016 and 2026, making this a prime field for new entrants.
