New Option For ATB(Ability To Benifit) Students At Nyadi
No GED; no problem! New York Automotive & Diesel Institute is prepared to welcome ATB(Ability to Benefit) students. These are students over 17 who have not completed high school or do not have a valid foreign educational certificate. ATB Students who qualify for the program will be eligible for US government funding and will receive special assistance with their education. The specifics, below, are taken from the US Education Department. What does it mean? It means that if you do not have the required academic qualifications (high school or equivalent) to enter our program as a general student, you still may be able to qualify as an ATB student by taking the ATB test. You will receive the same great career education and also free preparation for your high school equivalency. Read it carefully.
The Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015 changed the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA), to partially restore what is known as the “ability to benefit (ATB) alternatives”. The new law, which went into effect on Dec. 16, 2014, changed the HEA to allow a student who did not receive a high school diploma (or its recognized equivalent), or who did not complete a secondary school education in a home-school setting, to be eligible for Title IV financial aid in an eligible career pathways program.
New York Automotive & Diesel Institute has been granted the status of an eligible career pathways program and meets or exceeds the following standards.
- Concurrently enroll students in connected adult education and eligible post-secondary programs;
- Provide students with counseling and supportive services to identify and attain academic and career goals;
- Provide structured course sequences that are articulated and contextualized; and allow students to advance to higher levels of education and employment;
- Provide opportunities for acceleration for students to attain recognized post-secondary credentials, including degrees, industry relevant certifications, and certificates of completion of apprenticeship programs.
Test Assessing Seconday Complitions
NYADI offers our ATB students free preparation for the TASC (TEST ASSESSING SECONDARY COMPLETION) so that they may attain a High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate along with their NYADI certificates. This program is offered in a state of the art electronic environment with qualified instructors and peer tutors. To insure that applicants are prepared to accomplish the tasks required to pass NYADI classes and in order to be accepted as an ATB student, applicants must take qualifying exams in verbal and math skills. Applicants who do not meet the minimum scores will be referred to further preparation and can come back at a later date to take the ATB test again.
This is a great opportunity to prepare yourself for a fast growing career and the possibility of further higher education at the same time. Be sure to tell your friends and family members about the ATB financial possibilities at NYADI!
