Automotive Technology Programs at NYADI

• Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) in Automotive Technology: If you’re looking to earn an AOS degree, this is a 60-credit program with over 1,400 hours of hands-on training.
• Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) in Automotive and Diesel Technology: This program focuses on diesel engine technology and allows the graduate to earn an AOS degree. The program is a 60-credit program that offers over 1,400 hours of hands-on training.
• Certificate in Automotive Service Technology: NYADI also offers certificate programs. The Automotive Service Technology certificate is a 45-credit program with over 1,000 hours of hands-on training.
• Certificate in Truck and Diesel Service Technology: This certificate program focuses on heavy-duty and diesel engine fuel systems. The program includes over 1,000 hours of hands-on training earning 45 credits.
• Certificate in Collison Repair Technology: Featuring over 1,100 hours of hands-on training, this program prepares students for repairing and refinishing automobiles after a collision. The certificate takes 48 credit hours to complete.

At the end of each program, students will be equipped with all the knowledge needed to take an ASE exam. ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence and is a program run by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

To become an ASE-certified mechanic in automotive and light trucks, students need to pass a test. There are eight different areas in which a mechanic can become ASE-certified, which include:

• Air conditioning and heating
• Braking systems
• Drivetrain and axles
• Electronic and electrical
• Engine performance
• Engine repair
• Steering and suspension
• Transmission and transaxle

To receive the title of ASE Master Technician, a person must take all eight examinations and pass them.

Having a Master Technician designation from ASE gives mechanics an advantage over their competition. The certification provides written proof of the mechanic’s advanced skills, which can make the mechanic a preferred candidate for an employer.  That could lead to a higher wage.
