Truck and Diesel Service Technology Certificate

The Truck and Diesel Service Technology Certificate program takes 15 classes (45 credits) and includes classroom theory and hands-on training. The certificate can be completed in as little as 12 months if you’re a full-time student or 18 months as a part-time student.

Automotive and Diesel Technology Associate Degree

The Automotive and Diesel Technology Associate Degree program allows students to earn a degree in diesel technology in about 16 months as full-time students or 25 months as part-time students. The program includes 20 classes (60 credits) of combined classroom and hands-on training.

How Much Does Diesel Mechanic School Cost?

The cost of diesel mechanic school can vary depending on what type of program a student is pursuing. Whether you choose to go after the certificate or degree program at NYADI, we want to help those who qualify with financial assistance.

For those who meet the qualifications, financial aid is available. First, students will need to fill out a FASFA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). FASFA helps determine what financial aid options a student qualifies for.

Financial aid options available to students can include:

• Federal Pell Grants: Students do not have to repay these grants. The federal government determines eligibility based on student need, cost of attendance, and amount of funding available.
• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): This grant is for students with an exceptional financial need.
• Federal College Work Study (FCWS): This program provides part-time employment to students who need supplemental earnings to help offset the costs of attending diesel mechanic school.
• Subsidized Federal Direct Student Loan Program: A subsidized loan is available for students in financial need, and the government pays the interest on the loans while the student is in school.
• Unsubsidized Federal Direct Student Loan Program: An unsubsidized loan is like a subsidized federal direct loan, except the student is responsible for the interest on the loan while in school.
• Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS): PLUS loans are available for parents to borrow money to help their child attend school. Repayment begins 60 days after the last disbursement.
• Tuition Assistance Program (TAP): TAP is an award available for full-time students that covers up to $4,000.
• Pursuit of Program (POP): Earn a grade in a percentage of the minimum full-time course load in each term and receive an award.

If a student doesn’t have a GED or a high school diploma, they can still attend NYADI. We’re an Ability to Benefit (ATB) technical college, which means students can enroll in NYADI’s career training programs and adult education programs at the same time, at no extra cost to the student. We want our students to excel and ensure they have their GED, which can help them find a job later.

Students benefit from the ATB program by:

• Concurrent enrollment in our High School Equivalent course and a career certificate program
• Accessing academic counseling sessions
• Structured courses that allow them to advance through the automotive hierarchy
• An option to participate in our industry certificate program
